In honor of the life and work of Cesar Chavez, Student Life will host an information fair aimed at showcasing the various engagement opportunities for Butte College students on our campus and in our community. Participants will include local non-profits and community volunteer organizations, over 20 campus clubs, and other campus student organizations. Our hope is to educate our campus about the efforts of Cesar Chavez in order to inspire students to connect to organizations that can provide hands-on experiences in a variety of fields and community work.

That’s What She Said Display and Opening Remarks
March 7 from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. in the Campus Center Lounge
Join us in the Campus Center Lounge for a chance to view the That’s What She Said visual display, hear opening
remarks by Butte College Safe Place and Wellness Program Coordinator, Quinsea Pratt, and a enjoy a light lunch.

Hidden Figures, Film and Discussion
March 12 from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. at the Chico Center Student Lounge (Room 146)
Hidden Figures tells the incredible untold story of Katherine Jonson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson – brilliant African-American women working at NASA who served as the brains behind the launch into orbit of astronaut John Glenn. Facilitated by Safe Place and Wellness Program Coordinator, Quinsea Pratt.

Painting Her Story, Paint and Sip

A time to sip (on juice and apple cider) and paint, unwind and share stories and experiences among women with intersecting identities. Facilitated by Culture and Community Center Program Specialist, Je’Meshia Wade.

Objectification vs. Empowerment

An open discussion about female empowerment movements and where we draw the line (if we draw the line) between objectification and empowerment. Facilitated by Culture and Community Center Program Specialist, Je’Meshia Wade.

Self-care Spa Day
March 28 from 12:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. at Safe Place

The Butte College Art Gallery is pleased to announce Mixed Media Madame, a collection of paintings by artist Traci Owens. This exhibit will be on display from March 4 – April 4, 2019, in the Butte College Art Gallery.  An artist’s reception will take place on Thursday, March 28, 2019, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. During this time the artist will perform a live painting demonstration to music. The finished painting will be auctioned off upon completion at 5:30pm. Food and refreshments will be served. The event is free and open to the public.  

Traci Owens is based in Auburn, CA where she has a store front art gallery and studio of her work. She has an exciting, energetic approach to her paintings and encourages her audience to be courageous and “push themselves outside of the comforts of habit to discover the unexpected.”

The Butte College Art Gallery is located on the main Butte College campus, 3536 Campus Drive, in the new ARTS Building (ARTS 106) closest to parking lot 3. Dr. Becky Bailey’s Conscious Discipline empowers adults with the Seven Powers for Self-Control. These powers change adults’ perception and relationship with conflict, empowering them to be proactive instead of reactive during conflict times. As adults begin to change their attitudes and behaviors, so will the children in their care.
