All Day FALL 2022 K-12 CONCURRENT ENROLLMENT & SPECIAL ADMIT REGISTRATION BEGINS AT 12PM
Fall 2022 K-12 Concurrent Enrollment & Special Admit registration begins at 12 PM
12:00 AM - 1:50 AM Water Tower Hike
FLEX # 506
Come explore the Butte College wildlife refuge by getting a bird’s eye view of the campus. We’ll take an early morning hike while ascending to the top of Water Tower Butte. While up there, you can see the entire campus. On our descent, we’ll hike down the north side and follow the blue oak loop back to the campus. Please be sure to wear sturdy closed-toed shoes. Sun protection and water can be quite handy as well. It is an uphill trek, so get ready to get your heart pumping. Attendees will meet in front of the Life Science building, LS107.
9:00 AM - 10:20 AM CTE Ethics/Business Ethics
FLEX # 102
Are Corp the root of all evil? Are industry standards just a matter of opinion? What are my employees obligated to do really? Ethics are great and all, but how do they pay my bills? Should CTE programs be supplying businesses with employees? Discussions on these kinds of moral dilemmas are painfully absent from our contemporary industry lexicon. Trade schools rarely touch them. Explore some anti-finger-wagging ethical discourse in a pragmatic approach to how we live and work in the Industrial Arts. Let's explore where policy can coordinate with political and personal values. (Yes, we will omit the work of Emmanuel Kant for this workshop.)
9:00 AM - 10:20 AM Tips for More Inclusive Classroom
FLEX # 605
Addressing the unique needs of students from diverse backgrounds is one of the major challenges facing community college education. For instance, students attempting to change their names to align with their identity while attending Butte may feel isolated in a traditionally designed classroom. But with a few minor changes, classrooms can be transformed into an inclusive and inviting environment.
10:30 AM - 11:20 AM Student Conduct, Rights, and Responsibilities
FLEX # 203
When and why should you complete a Behavioral/Academic Incident Report? Student discipline problems are on the rise, and the number of student appeals and complaints have gone up dramatically. What you don’t know about your rights and student due process can cause both you and the student unnecessary problems. Topics of discussion will include: What constitutes disruption? How do you report an incident? What happens after you submit a report?
10:30 AM - 11:50 AM Supporting English Language Learner Success
FLEX # 606
This workshop centers the English Language Learners in our courses to focus on specific strategies to facilitate their success. The Butte College ESL/ELL faculty will summarize some of the unique, multi-cultural challenges that English Language Learners face in college courses and share ideas to help faculty identify supports to address potential equity gaps.
11:30 AM - 4:00 PM New Full-time Faculty Orientation*
FLEX # 357
New Faculty Orientation (NFO) is packed with essential information and resources for supporting newly hired full-time faculty. NFO offers information on tenure procedures, tips on navigating the college, advice on tapping resources to support teaching and student success, and key introductions to campus contacts and resources. NFO aims to build competence and community in the professional lives of faculty. Participants will leave with the knowledge and confidence that support a successful start at Butte College.
12:00 PM - 12:50 PM IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, & Anti-racism) Welcome Reception
FLEX # 607
You are invited to the IDEA Welcome Reception, which is an opportunity to connect and build alliances with your Roadrunner colleagues. Join us as we discuss upcoming equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives and events planned for the academic year. Please RSVP if you plan to attend.
1:00 PM - 2:20 PM Accessibility Basics
FLEX # 608
We want all our students, faculty, and staff to have a great learning and/or working experience. Designing with accessibility in mind will help all of our students be successful in a course, and employees be successful in their jobs. As an extra benefit, adding usability features gives ALL students the opportunity to learn more effectively, and increases job satisfaction for faculty and staff. Take this training on essential accessibility basic concepts that can be used in other authoring applications such as Canvas, Word, and Adobe Acrobat PDF. Participants will be able to:
Gain a full understanding of what accessibility means, why accessibility matters and how to:
• Create descriptive hyperlinks.
• Provide meaningful alternative text for images.
• Apply heading styles correctly.
• Apply list styles to groups of associated text.
• Apply table headers, determine scope, and provide descriptive caption or alt text to tables.

We will also cover existing emergency procedures such as lockdown and evacuation. It will end with an open question and answer session with members of your Police Department.
2:00 PM - 2:50 PM More Than Tutoring in CAS?!

We can do that for you, we just need your warm hand off! Come take a deep dive into CAS services and find out how we can support you and your students. 2:00 PM - 3:20 PM What the FW? Navigating Adds, Drops, W’s, FW’s, and Incompletes
FLEX # 119
In this one-hour thirty-minute workshop with plenty of time for questions at the end, Faculty and Staff will be given steps and guidelines for navigating course Add, Waitlist, and Drop processes.  We will review how to use the Rosters in Self Service as well as understanding timelines and best practices for issuing W, FW, and Incomplete grades.
3:00 PM - 3:50 PM Introduction to Mnemonics
FLEX # 103.1
Would you like to improve your memory? Mnemonic systems are strategies that anyone can learn and use to remember more. We often wish we had a better memory: we’d be less forgetful; we’d learn more things; we’d be more effective in our courses; and retain more of our lives. The good news is that we can all improve our memories by using time-tested and evidence-based mnemonic strategies. “Mental athletes” may astound us by their impressive feats of memory, like memorizing decks of playing cards quickly, long lists of words or numbers, or reciting pages after page of texts verbatim. They will all tell you, however, that they don’t have a special memory – they simply use mnemonics. And you can too! In this series of workshops, you will learn a number of mnemonic techniques you can apply immediately to improve your memory. This series will cover three systems – the Peg (introductory) and Phonetic (advanced) Systems, in addition to learning how to memorize names and faces.
