9:00 AM - 1:00 PM Roadrunner Rush - Welcoming Students Back!!!

The Butte College Welcome Center is excited to announce they are hosting a Roadrunner Rush to welcome back all students.  You invited to join us.

For the first time in a year, Roadrunner Rush will be held in-person at the main campus on Thursday, August 19, 2021 starting at 9:00AM.  So no more staring at your screen for zoom. 

Please join us a day filled with activities, department resources, tour the campus, a chance to win prizes or take care any last minute semester to do’s. 

Due to COVID-19, Butte College has to comply with the masking guidance for the event.  Fully vaccinated may go unmasked indoors and outdoors.  Non-vaccinated must wear a mask indoors and are encouraged to wear a mask outdoors, especially in crowded areas.  If you’re feeling sick, please stay home.

The Safe Zone program is a 3 hour introductory training that invites participants to learn about LGBTQ+ issues, provide resources, and create a supportive environment for LGBTQ+ students, faculty, and staff exploring issues of sexual identity, gender identity, and gender expression.

The Chancellor’s Office Vision Resource Center is an online learning and collaboration platform for everyone working in the California Community Colleges. There is an easily accessible and searchable catalog of over 7,000 learning modules from Skillsoft and LinkedIn Learning (formerly Lynda). Employees are able add courses to their transcripts for tracking and reporting. Attend this workshop to find out more about exciting new developments in Professional Development!

Kiss the Ground is an environmental documentary that highlights the power of regenerative agriculture to balance our climate and restore water supplies while providing food to all people. Let's Kiss the Ground into the Curriculum this Fall in preparation for a college-wide screening of the documentary later in the semester. Watch the docu before the workshop or just drop-in to join the conversation. Come with an openness and be prepared to feel inspired. Together we can share and encourage ideas of how to incorporate themes of Kiss the Ground into our courses and Bridge the Gap for Fall 2021. (Access code for docu available upon registration)

The purpose of this session is to share concrete strategies for communicating with others about divisive issues. We will talk through a step-by-step approach to analyzing the communication situation, identify communication goals, and then learn some specific verbal and nonverbal communication strategies to help us achieve those goals. You will leave the session with a ""toolkit"" of strategies suited for situations seeking both mutual understanding (relational strategies) and mutual agreement (persuasive strategies).

One of the biggest challenges associated with analyzing equity data is the sheer volume of metrics that have to be considered. With so many metrics it can be difficult to find the story or stories that promote action. This session will provide participants with a new framework for modeling the student inequities and novel way to examine equity data that can reveal the pathways to action.

Evaluation training is mandated by faculty contract once a full-time faculty member reaches tenure. 1:00 PM - 1:50 PM Ask a Butte Biologist! COVID-19 Vaccines - Part 1

In part I of this presentation, the Butte College Biology faculty will introduce the replication cycle of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19 disease, and explain how vaccines work to protect against disease. In part II, we will share up to date information on the safety and efficacy of COVID-19 vaccines, the resources we use to stay current, and answer questions about the biology behind the vaccines. If you already attended the spring 2021 presentation or watched the recording, we recommend you only attend part II.

Individuals interested in fostering diversity on campus are invited to join the Diversity Committee meeting and hear an overview of their work on campus and plan for the upcoming year. The Diversity Committee works to promote an inclusive community that embraces all aspects of diversity among students, faculty, and staff. To raise awareness toward this goal, the committee organizes events and participates in campus events; provides diversity workshops and training on campus; funds faculty, staff, and students to diversity workshops off campus; and makes recommendations to faculty, staff, and administration on diversity-related topics.
