The CTE Caucus is a new idea from the Academic Senate Exec. We hope to build a stronger CTE faculty voice in shared governance, to inform faculty on initiatives, committees, and task forces impacting CTE areas, and to identify issues of common concern. We hope that this time during FLEX Week will be friendly to your schedules and allow you to engage with the Senate in a new and effective way.

When and why should you complete a Behavioral/Academic Incident Report? Student discipline problems are on the rise, and the number of student appeals and complaints have gone up dramatically. What you don’t know about your rights and student due process can cause both you and the student unnecessary problems. Topics of discussion will include: What constitutes disruption? How do you report an incident? What happens after you submit a report?

The Book in Common for 2021/2022 is the novel There There by Tommy Orange. The book is one of The New York Times 10 Best Books of the Year and winner of the PEN/Hemingway Award. Tommy Orange’s novel follows a dozen characters from Native communities who are traveling to the Big Oakland Powwow and are connected to one another in ways they may not realize. Their voices describe of the plight of the urban Native American—grappling with a complex and painful history, with an inheritance of beauty and spirituality, with communion and sacrifice and heroism. The focus of this workshop will be on ways the many ways students might engage with this year’s Book in Common.
