Event Description: FLEX # 103
Have you heard that you only use 10% of your brain? Or, male and female brains are designed for different types of skills? Or, students learn better when they received instruction in their preferred learning style? Each of these statements is widely believed and yet each is false. Belief in these and other neuromyths limits our ability to effectively instruct our students and constrains their educational potential. Educators rarely receive detailed instruction on learning and the brain, how to identify neuronmyths, and use evidence-based practices to structure better classes. In this Flex Days Workshop, we will cover common neuromyths, why they are myths, and what brain science has to say. A panel at the International Mind, Brain, and Education Society concluded that “teachers’ belief in neuromyths is one of the greatest barriers to improving education.” By debunking common neuromyths, we can improve our instruction and better serve our students. |
