Event Description: Undetectable: Reading the Poetry of the HIV Epidemic in 2020. The American HIV crisis continues to change how our country understands health, sex, intimacy, gender, race, family, and mourning. In this inclusive conversation, we'll talk about representations of HIV/AIDS in contemporary poetry. How have these social shifts, along with individual experiences of HIV, been represented in poems? What poetic techniques show up in this particular body of literature? What can we detect in these poems and what remains unknown? What influence might these poets have on us as creative thinkers in 2020? This event is for everyone—you don't need any prior background in creative writing or in the legacies of HIV. Bring your curiosity, your empathy, a notebook, and a pen. Free optional HIV testing afterward. |
