Last day to drop for Serious & Compelling reasons.
9:00 AM - 9:50 AM Butte Employee Education Program (BEEP) IV
FLEX # 376.4
BEEP Part IV: Participating on Campus.
This session focuses on all the different ways Butte employees can participate on campus. From participatory governance to campus and community activities and everything in between, this session has something for everyone to get involved in.
9:00 AM - 11:50 AM Canvas Crossroads 2023
FLEX # 276
Please join your faculty colleagues and friends from Technology Mediated Instruction (TMI) on campus for our annual mini-conference! We’ll share a summary of new updates for Canvas and explore new ways of reaching our students with our greatest asset…you! This year’s event will also feature a panel discussion with participants who recently completed a CCC sponsored “humanizing” online instruction academy from the California Education Learning Lab.  A continental breakfast and a catered lunch will be served. Three hours of flex credit is available.
11:30 AM - 12:20 PM Tips to Make Your Classroom More Inclusive
FLEX # 658
Addressing the unique needs of students from diverse backgrounds is one of the major challenges facing community college education. For instance, students attempting to change their names to align with their identity while attending Butte may feel isolated in a traditionally designed classroom. But with a few minor changes, classrooms can be transformed into an inclusive and inviting environment. In this presentation, you will learn how information about the Chosen Name Project, Queer Resource Center, and Open Educational Resources can be included in your syllabus and course content to help students in and out of your classroom.
12:00 PM - 12:50 PM Employer Integration Approaches for Faculty and Students
FLEX # 230
The Career Center and our college’s North Far North Assistant Director of Employer Partnerships (ADEP) are developing new ways to connect Faculty and students with local employers. Come and discover how the ADEP-Career Services partnership can support Faculty with their experiential learning endeavors, job placement opportunities for students, work-based learning professional development for Faculty, and the Career Center’s new COI-based organizational model. Welcome our new ADEP, Wendy Porter, and learn about her plans to integrate employer engagement throughout the entire student experience.
12:00 PM - 12:50 PM Student Conduct, Rights, & Responsibilities
FLEX # 231
When and why should you complete a Behavioral/Academic Incident Report? Student discipline problems are on the rise, and the number of student appeals and complaints have gone up dramatically. What you don’t know about your rights and student due process can cause both you and the student unnecessary problems. Topics of discussion will include: What constitutes disruption? How do you report an incident? What happens after you submit a report?
1:00 PM - 1:50 PM Me and White Supremacy Book Groups
FLEX # 659
Want to learn what the Me & White Supremacy Book group is all about? It's one thing to read an announcement inviting you to consider participating in a small group that will meet weekly throughout the semester to read, journal, and discuss topics from Layla Saad's book Me & White Supremacy. It's another thing to hear directly from past participants. Zoom in to this workshop to hear a panel of people share their emotional experiences, what they learned by participating in the group, and why they feel this is critical work that every person who holds white privilege needs to do. “This book is a one-of-a-kind personal anti-racism tool structured to help people with white privilege understand and take ownership of their participation in the oppressive system of white supremacy.” from Layla Saad. Everyone who has white privilege is invited to attend, and we will share what Layla says biracial, multiracial, and People of Color with white privilege should be aware of before undertaking this particular work.
2:00 PM - 3:50 PM Chemical Hygiene Basics
FLEX # 551
This introductory course is required for all who use chemicals in instructional laboratories settings (science instructors and support personnel). If you have not attended a Butte College Chemical Hygiene basics class before, this class is for you.
