All Day Banned Book Week (Multi-Day Event)
Come to the library in celebration of the 1st amendment.  Find out which of your favorite books have been challenged. Enter for a chance to win a banned book or a free KINDLE  E-BOOK READER! Some faculty will be wearing toy handcuffs as a way to dramatize and invite discussion of the oppression of censorship.  We plan to wear the cuffs as a conversation starter about times we have experienced censorship, been asked to ban a book, a song, a piece of art, or any other cases where we know freedom of information or a point of view has been challenged or suppressed.  If you would like to join us, drop by the reference desk of the main library and pick up a pair. Our first book sale of the year will be September 27 and 28, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., under the solar panels in the quad between the Campus Center and the SAS buildings. Hope to see you all there!

Join a discussion of Zeitoun and how what happened in New Orleans has lessons for us in California.
6:30 PM - 7:30 PM 'Zeitoun' - Book In Common - Create A Reading Group
Criteria used to select the Book in Common:
•The Book in Common should be engaging to a broad readership, drawing diverse readers into the book and the issues it raises;
•The Book in Common should deal with relevant and enduring topics;
•The Book in Common should lend itself to use and discussion in a variety of contexts in the community and on campus;
•The Book in Common should touch on important social issues, and value the diverse cultural perspectives found in contemporary society;
•The Book in Common should resonate with the unique characteristics of the North State and Butte College, and CSU, Chico as a special place for living and learning.
