Evaluator training is mandated by faculty contract once a full-time faculty member reaches tenure. The training session must take place before a newly-tenured instructor serves on an evaluation team for a colleague, and the workshop also serves as a good review of the evaluation process for any instructor or administrator.

The Transfer Counseling Center is pleased to announce the launch of the Transfer Academy for the fall semester. The goal of the academy is to increase the number transferring to the UC system. In addition, the Transfer Academy will work to foster a culture of transfer on campus, specifically, to the UC system. We will demonstrate the development of a comprehensive student education plan, and the various tools available to students and how faculty can assist in increasing student transfer rates.

1:00 PM - 4:00 PM Glass Fusing Workshop Part 1

Explore your creative side. Come down to the Sculpture Lab and try your hand at glass fusing. We will be working with transparent, opalescent, iridescent and diachronic glass and creating jewelry and small ornamental pieces. Thursday there will be a brief art glass lecture in ARTS 234, then we will head down to the sculpture lab where you will cut and design glass pieces. The glass pieces will be fired overnight. Friday will be spent finishing and assembling your glass pieces using a variety of findings. Space is limited to 25 attendees. Materials fee $10.

Students (as with all of us) experience a lot of stress. Through discussion we will explore the types of stressors with which our students are dealing. We will also discuss strategies we can use to help students develop coping skills for dealing with and reducing their stress. We will discuss how internal vs. external locus of control, problem vs. emotion based coping and the common, unhealthy strategies that people often use.

​Individuals interested in fostering diversity on campus are invited to join the Diversity Committee meeting and hear an overview of their work on campus and plan for the upcoming year. The Diversity Committee works to promote an inclusive community that embraces all aspects of diversity among students, faculty, and staff. To raise awareness toward this goal, the committee organizes events and participates in campus events; provides diversity workshops and trainings on campus; funds faculty, staff, and students to diversity workshops off campus; and makes recommendations to faculty, staff, and administration on diversity-related topics.

This project will consist of a book club that will feature a current, readable, research-based and affordable book focused on the mechanism of learning. For the fall 2017 semester, the book will be Brown, Roediger and McDaniel's Make It Stick: The Science of Successful Learning (Belknap Press; Harvard University Press, 2014.) The August Flex Week meeting will introduce the book and sketch out more details. During the semester, the club will meet every other week to discuss one chapter.

Writing Across Boarders is a 3-year documentary project founded by Oregon State University Center for Writing and Learning and its writing-inclusive curriculum program. The documentary's purpose is to keep faculty, writing assistants, and other professionals work more productively with international student writing environments.
