End Day Unity Project (Multi-Day Event)

Created to raise consciousness about the labels we give ourselves and others, UNITY is a larger-than-life structure that helps us celebrate our uniqueness and strengthens our ties to each other. The project consists of 32 posts, each with identifiers such as, “I’m a parent”; or “I speak English as a second language” etc.  Participants will tie colorful yarn to posts that reflect their identities.

End Day You Are Beautiful Art Installation (Multi-Day Event)

The project intends to highlight the beauty and diversity that is in each of us. It will take place in the Campus Center and will involve taking pictures of the Butte College Community and putting the pictures on big words cut out of stock paper that spell "YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL ". It will result in a collage of all the participants. Please join in the making of this special installation.

End Time 5:00 PM Safety and Inclusion Poster Campaign (Multi-Day Event)

A post-election workshop, “Moving Forward: How Can We Heal from a Culture of Division?” held with the intent of providing space for all students, regardless of whom they voted for, to discuss the electoral process, share feelings about the election, and create a safety and inclusion resulted in a series of posters created by students and staff. 

Join us on April 4 from 2 - 2:30 p.m. in the Butte College Art Gallery (located in the Arts building) for a reception of this artwork. Artwork will be displayed all week.

9:30 AM - 10:45 AM Diversity Talks: I Am One More Voice

In the spirit of Ted Talks, students and faculty will present short informational and inspirational Talks in the area of diversity, inclusion, and equity.  Our Theme is: I Am One More Voice. DiversityTalks is open to the whole community.  It is designed to inspire present and future action and to serve as a reminder that one voice can change the world.

11:00 AM - 12:15 PM What Islam Is Not: Realistic View of a Great Tradition

Each participant will give a short introduction about a balanced and informed understanding of Islam, and introduce potential topics for conversation. Following these brief introductions, the session will be opened to thoughtful and civil discussion on Islam, the Muslim world, Islamophobia, Muslims in America, and other topics of interest.

In the United States, the rise in globalization, multiculturalism, and the women's movement has created a backlash fueled by sexism, misogyny, and violence. What does the 21st century hold for American patriarchy? Are men finished? Will men be able to throw off old notions of masculinity and adapt to our changing world? Facilitated by Tom Grothe and Laura Rapozo-Davis

The Closing Ceremony will bring our Diversity Week to an end.  A Flute procession to send our good wishes and hopes, for inclusive, diversity, and equity, into our near future, will take place. Please join us in closing the 2016 Diversity Days. Refreshments to follow.
