Book in Common - At Night I Fly |

Event Description: Tuesday March 1st 11-12:15 in ARTS theater. Viewing of the film At Night I Fly which documents the final years of the California Arts in Corrections program in New Folsom prison in Sacramento. Using interviews and arts room discussions the film—like Just Mercy—captures the human face of mass incarceration while also posing critical questions about the function of prison and the place of art in rehabilitation. Art and English instructors will co-facilitate a post-film discussion.
Wednesday March 2nd 11:00 - 12:30 in ARTS theater. Gallery talk for the Butte College exhibition "A Sense of Place & Belonging" –how life experiences inform artistic work and how artist work helps them make "sense" of the experiences. Following the talk there’ll be a viewing of the short film: Art Strong: Arts in Corrections at Valley State Prison.
