Event Description: FLEX # 53.09
Join us for an educational excursion to a nearby mountaintop in an area free from light pollution (Bottle Hill). This activity will bring together faculty and staff from across campus as we see a familiar sight (the night sky) with eyes newly informed by our own astronomer, Jason Trento. Participants will enjoy a high elevation, low light view of a pristine night sky, learn to orient themselves within that space, and learn to use telescopes to view several astronomical objects of interest. The nature of these objects and their place in the astronomical timeline will also be discussed. Participants will gain an appreciation for the importance of maintaining “dark places” on our planet and the environmental impacts of that goal. |
|
Admission Information: RSVP Required! Due to the limited number of available telescopes, and to optimize the experience for the guide and the participants, an RSVP is required. Please RSVP to Tierra Lloyd at the contact information provided. Participation is limited to 30 participants. |
Other Details: Transportation to and from the site will be the responsibility of the participants (carpooling is encouraged). |
