Beyond the Gender Binary
ALOK (they/them) is a gender non-conforming writer and performance artist. Their distinctive style and poetic challenge to the gender binary have been internationally renowned. As a mixed-media artist Alok uses poetry, prose, comedy, performance, fashion design, and portraiture to explore themes of gender, race, trauma, belonging, and the human condition. They are the author of Femme in Public (2017) and Beyond the Gender Binary (2020). In 2019 they were honored as one of NBC’s Pride 50 and Out Magazine’s OUT 100. They have presented their work in more than 40 countries. | |

This Wednesday, starting at 3:00, the Academic Senate will be hosting its Fall Forum. Our focus will be on how we can support the most vulnerable of our students, particularly our students of color, during these times of online instruction. We will have a short introduction, a very short break, and then breakout sessions. These sessions are designed to be opportunities for collegial dialogue, so bring your concerns, issues, and best practices to share with and support each other. Here are the topics for the breakouts:
1. Ideas for student engagement
2. Faculty supporting students outside of the virtual classroom
3. Reengaging disengaged students
4. Scheduling, synchronicity, and equity
The forum is scheduled to last until 4:45, but if you can’t stay the entire time, join us for what you can. | |
