Event Description:
Butte College is hosting a presentation of the ATC-20 material on the Postearthquake Safety Evaluation of Buildings. It follows the chapter order of the 1989 ATC-20 report, Procedures for Postearthquake Safety Evaluation of Buildings (and the 1995 ATC-20-2 report, Addendum to the ATC-20 Postearthquake Building Safety Evaluation Procedures), and the condensed, pocket-sized version, the ATC-20-1 Field Manual. There is an added section on structural basics. It provides examples which allow attendees to evaluate building damage conditions, assess the overall risk from the damage, and recommend which of the three placards in the ATC-20-2 Addendum should be posted on the building. Further case studies illustrating the rapid evaluation techniques are found in the 1996 ATC-20-3 report, Case Studies in Rapid Postearthquake Safety Evaluation of Buildings.
The presenter, Bob Bruce is experienced in evaluating buildings after earthquakes, and has full knowledge of the ATC-20 methods.
