Excess Units Petition Deadline
For students who failed to meet SAP time frame criteria. Students disqualified for exceeding time frame requirements may appeal by submitting an Excess Units Petition. Deadline for submitting petition for Fall 2014 semester is October 30, 2014.
Satisfactory Academic Progress Extenuating Circumstances Appeal
Satisfactory Academic Progress Extenuating Circumstances Appeal (SAP)
For students who failed to meet SAP criteria. Extenuating circumstances may include serious illness or injury, death of an immediate family member, or other non-recurring catastrophic or compelling situation beyond the student's reasonable control. The Financial Aid Office will be accepting SAP Appeals starting August 4th. Deadline: October 30, 2014.

A.S. Haunted House Fundraiser

On October 30th and 31st from 6-9 p.m., the Butte College Associated Students will once again transform the Butte College Chico Center Lounge into twisting hallways of haunting terror! Attendees should beware of Freddy Krueger, Jason, Michael Myers, Samara and other infamous tortured souls as these classic horror film characters return from the dead.
On Halloween night only (October 31st) from 6-9 p.m., there will also be a safe and sober Harvest Fair which will include: Psychic Readings from Moonlit Mermaid, photo booth, music & dancing, Butte College Clubs, face painting, sweets and fun!At 8 p.m. attendees can participate in a judged costume contest with a chance to win a tablet!

 This alcohol-free event is open to all community members, but the Haunted House is not recommended for children under 13 years old. The Haunted House is free to Butte College students with a valid Activity Card, and a $2 donation per person is requested from the public.

 All proceeds will be donated to Butte College Foundation Scholarships. The Butte College Foundation ensures the academic development and excellence of students through financial and other forms of support.

The Chico Center Student Lounge is located at 2320 Forest Avenue in Chico, next to Wittmeier Auto Center.

Course Evaluation for Excess Units/Loans
1st day to submit a Course Evaluation for an Excess Units Petition or a Loan Application (if required). The Course Evaluation should be given to each instructor after the first class test or NOT BEFORE SEPTEMBER 23rd, whichever comes first. If a particular class does not have tests, the instructor can comment on your performance on quizzes, classwork, assignments. Return this Course Evaluation to the Financial Aid Office. Include ALL current classes on one form. ALL classes must show passing grades (“C” or better). See Course Evaluation for Financial Aid under Forms & Links tab at www.butte.edu/financialaid.

This year’s theme,  “A Very Wicked Wizard of Oz” will be filled with live actors, special effects, and eerie goblins and ghouls! A safe and sober Harvest Fair will also be hosted on Halloween night outside the Haunted House.

The event is free to Butte College students with a valid Activity Card, and a $2 donation per person is requested from the public. All proceeds will be donated to the Boys & Girls Club of the North Valley, Teen Program. This alcohol-free event is open to all community members, but is not recommended for children under 10 years old. The Butte College Associated Students are proud to offer our community a safe and sober way to celebrate Halloween.

This event is funded by the Butte College Associated Students Activity Fee. The Butte College Chico Center Student Lounge is located at 2320 Forest Avenue in Chico, next to Wittmeier Auto Center.

Rain cancels Harvest Fair but normal Haunted House hours will be open rain or shine.

Handi-Riders of Northern California Board Meeting
Handi-Riders of Northern California will hold their board meetings in AHPS118B. 

Handi-Riders, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, was started in Butte County in 1981 by a dedicated group of people from the equestrian community and Butte County Schools Special Education Department. These individuals worked together to provide a unique form of therapeutic activity for children and adults with special needs: Therapeutic Horseback Riding.

A.S. Fireside Debates

The Butte College Speech and Debate Team and the Butte College Associated Students will again host “Fireside Debates” during the month of November, 2013 at the Butte College main campus in the Campus Center Lounge. The event is designed to engage students in the debate process and create awareness around mental health. Audience participation is encouraged with a facilitated question and answer segment at the end of each debate. The Associated Students anticipate involvement from both students, faculty and administration from the college. This event series is free to students, faculty and staff and will include beverages and light snacks.  

Debate Schedule:

November, 13th from 1 p.m. – 2 p.m., “Laura’s Law”In November of 2004, Prop 63 “Laura’s Law” was passed. This proposition made it so the California court could order (force) a treatment of antipsychotic medications for the mentally ill in the best interest of public safety. The merits of this law will be debated.

November 19th from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., “Mental Health Screening”Should a mental health screening process be part of the college admissions process? The pros and cons of this idea will be debated.

This is the third round of Fireside Debates co-hosted by the Butte College Associated Students and Butte College Speech and Debate Team.

 •         Hazard Communication Right to Understand (GHS) 26-minutes

A.S. Fireside Debates

The Butte College Speech and Debate Team and the Butte College Associated Students will again host “Fireside Debates” during the month of November, 2013 at the Butte College main campus in the Campus Center Lounge. The event is designed to engage students in the debate process and create awareness around mental health. Audience participation is encouraged with a facilitated question and answer segment at the end of each debate. The Associated Students anticipate involvement from both students, faculty and administration from the college. This event series is free to students, faculty and staff and will include beverages and light snacks.  

Debate Schedule:

November, 13th from 1 p.m. – 2 p.m., “Laura’s Law”In November of 2004, Prop 63 “Laura’s Law” was passed. This proposition made it so the California court could order (force) a treatment of antipsychotic medications for the mentally ill in the best interest of public safety. The merits of this law will be debated.

November 19th from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., “Mental Health Screening”Should a mental health screening process be part of the college admissions process? The pros and cons of this idea will be debated.

This is the third round of Fireside Debates co-hosted by the Butte College Associated Students and Butte College Speech and Debate Team.

Handi-Riders, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, was started in Butte County in 1981 by a dedicated group of people from the equestrian community and Butte County Schools Special Education Department. These individuals worked together to provide a unique form of therapeutic activity for children and adults with special needs: Therapeutic Horseback Riding.

A.S. Holiday Bash

Butte College Associated Students (AS) will host a Holiday Bash, on December 4 from 9:00 a.m. to 2 p.m.  The event is organized to help students, faculty and staff unwind as they wrap up the semester.  Activities will be taking place at the Butte College main campus, 3536 Butte Campus Drive, in the Campus Center Lounge. The event offers free hot chocolate, treats, along with a holiday photo booth where students, faculty, and staff can wear “fun winter themed props.”  This year’s attendees can also expect to enjoy a craft and gift fair from Butte College and community vendors.
The local band, The Yule Logs, will perform original holiday songs as well as secular classics with a twist.  The Yule Log sound has been described as Christmas and Hanukkah rock’n’roll with British invasion hooks and California surf harmonies.

In addition to the Holiday Bash the Associated Students will be encouraging students, faculty, and staff to donate to the Butte College Food Pantry during the week of December 2-6. Cash and food donations will be accepted. All student donors will be entered to win a 7”, 8GB,  touchscreen, wifi, Android 4.1 tablet. Faculty and staff can sponsor a student by participating in the food drive and entering a student of their choice into the drawing to win.

5th Annual Bb Community Exchange
Every January, Technology Mediated Instruction (TMI) hosts the Blackboard Community Exchange; a half day mini-conference on our own campus for all faculty frm both CSU Chico and Butte College. Select colleagues and TMI staff will present innovative ideas to help you improve your use of Blackboard for teaching and learning with your students. A catered lunch will be served. Attendees will earn up to 5.5 hours of flex time!
