9:00 AM - 12:00 PM Webinar on Hiring a Diverse Workforce
FLEX # 303
We are part of a training consortium through the North 14 Community College Districts and LCW, which is a law firm that offers trainings in a wide variety of topics relevant to community colleges. On Wednesday, October 14 from 9-12 they will be hosting the following training:

“Hiring the Best While Developing Diversity in the Workforce: Legal Requirements and Best Practices for Screening Committees” - The Model Equal Employment Opportunity Plan requires all members of district screening and/or selection committees to receive training in Title V equal employment opportunity requirements. This interactive session meets this requirement and includes discussion on state and federal discrimination laws as well as title V requirements.

We have the opportunity to access this training via videoconferencing.
12:30 PM - 1:45 PM Fall Book in Common Lecture Series
FLEX # 147.xx
Join us for a conversation with Sanjay Dev and Tom Grothe where they will discuss the wrongful conviction of Ajay Dev. A Nepali American Citizen, Ajay, and his American wife, Peggy, adopted a 16 year old teenage girl from Nepal striving to give her a better education and life while also ensuring that after she was established, she would help her biological family in Nepal and others if the opportunity arose. The problems began after she turned 18 and got her green card and escalated later when the couple and their 19 year old adopted daughter conflicted over priorities – college and career vs. boyfriends and her social life. What followed was an unjust accusation and a prison sentence of 378 years. Please join us to discuss this important injustice.

This is Part 2 of a 3-part Webinar Series
The Academic Senate of California Community Colleges and the Chancellor’s Office are sponsoring a three-part webinar series on equal employment opportunity and faculty diversity (see first attachment). It is believed that in academic years 2014-17, California community colleges will have an exponential increase in full-time faculty hiring not seen for nearly two decades and, like other colleges, Butte College will be hiring many new faculty.
